The below is the complete step by step guide on how to set up Akismet anti-spam plugin for your WordPress site. Follow each step accordingly for you to achieve the best spam regulation on your WordPress site.

Step 1

Visit the WordPress repo and download the Akismet Anti-spam Plugin.


Step 2

Install the plugin by login to your WordPress Admin Dashboard (Admin Panel) and locate Plugins>Add New>Upload. Now choose the Akismet Anti-spam zipped file from your download folder on your computer and install and activate it.

The Plugin Will ask that you to do a set once you have activated it.

We are going set up the Plugin by getting your Akismet API key, don’t worry, the API key is free and forever. To get the API key, you must sign up or sign to Akismet Account, but in this case, we are creating a new account.


Step 3

Click on “Set up your Akismet account” and then click on get your API key button on the next page.

Create your first Akismet account and add your site, once you’ve added your site, the API key will appear on your Akismet account dashboard copy the API key.


Step 5

Paste the API key you copied earlier into the blank space on the Akismet activation page and activate the plugin by clicking on “Activate with API key button.”

Once you have set everything according to how you want to use it, click save changes and that’s all you need to start using the Akismet Ant-spam plugin.
